I was diagnosed with type 2 in May. I had been feeling unwell for quite some time before seeing my GP. I was unbelievable tired all the time and would get home from work fall asleep wake up eat my dinner. Fall asleep wake up and go to bed. I'd be up during the night several times to go to the loo. At work I was struggling to do my work as I couldn't remember anything I had done the day before. I had a raging thirst. I have a bottle I fill with water from the cooler at work that holds 750 mls and I was filling it and drinking it all 4 or 5 times before mid day and still not getting rid of the thirst. My eyesight was also very blurry at times.I'd also been suffering from chronic thrush that wasn't getting any better with over the counter treatment. As soon as I listed all this to my GB he said he thought it may be diabetes and sent me for a blood test which confirmed this at 18.5. I'm now on Metaformin 50mg 2 times a day to start with but now I take 3 a day and drastically changing my diet. At first I was terrified of what to eat and what not to eat and everything I read seemed to conflict what I'd read before. I'm gradually getting to grips with it with a long way to go yet... I have lost over 15 kilos so far. I've been dipping in and out of here and the amount of helpful advice is very reassuring that you're not alone with this. The thing I struggle with is exercise as I'm partially disabled with chronic back pain from arthritis in my spine and have to use crutches to walk. Standing unaided for a few minutes becomes extremely painful & unbearable. Any advice on exercise with be very helpful. I recently attended a DESMOND (Diabetes Education and Self Management for Ongoing and Newly Diagnosed) course run my my local health authority which I was very helpful and informative. Had to wait 5 months though to get on the days session. I've been given a monitor by the practice nurse at my GP but have been told to only test my blood once a week. It's still up and down a bit. In the evening 2 hrs or so after dinner it has been as high as 12.5. This morning first thing it was 7.2 Oooops, apologies seems like I've rambled on a bit to long so thank you for your patience in reading through all this. Looking forward to receiving your help and advice along the way.
