A letter from my GP today asks me to return my top-notch meter in exchange for a very simple basic model. I currently use One Touch Verio Flex which allows me to email reports to my Diabetes Specialist Nurse and records trends and averages. The new meter is the One Touch Select Plus. I assume that the reason for the change is to save money - on Diabetes.co.uk the Select Plus strips are £2 cheaper per box of 50 than the One Touch, although One Touch can be bought for a fraction of the price on ebay.

The proposed meter needs more than twice the amount of blood.

Has anyone challenged their GP on this enforced change?

As well as challenging it yourself it is also worth talking to your diabetic nurse or consultant as they can often exert a lot of influence over the GP. Good luck!
