Greetings from Yorkshire

When you say your wife has reversed her diabetes, can you please share with us her last HBA1C results?

Having just returned to Yorkshire from Spain, and watched the ‘Tour de Yorkshire’ go by yesterday, and then had a notification of a new posting on this thread, I was nostalgically reading back through the thread when I came across your posting.

You really must read Dr Malcolm Kendrick’s “The Great Cholesterol Con”. In the early days of research, all of the research was conducted on older men with a previous history of Cardio Vascular Disease. The results, which seemed to indicate an association with high cholesterol, were rolled out as advice for everybody.

Much more recent research specifically on women, has shown that women with the highest Total Cholesterol also have the highest life expectancy. Across the board, all the research says that deaths from CVD may go down slightly from lowering Cholesterol, but deaths from other causes go up. It’s one of the problems, I think, of medical specialisms - the Cardiologist is only really interested in Cardio Vascular outcomes, not cancer, not Alzheimer’s etc etc. Anyway, it’s a good book and an entertaining read and essential reading for anybody contemplating taking statins, in my humble opinion. With a total cholesterol that was, at one time, 8.6, when I was rapidly losing weight, I have never worried in the slightest about it! With stellar triglycerides now, very good HDL (both normal benefits of LCHF) my Total Cholesterol remains ‘higher than my doctor would like’ - shame he isn’t better informed!
