Before I get to my question, I'll give you a brief history. I was diagnosed with GD in my first pregnancy (abnormal GTT) and was on Insulatard and Novorapid until I gave birth. My 6w postnatal GTT was normal. 6 months later I had a HbA1C of 48 and diagnosed prediabetic. Diet control for 6months, next HbA1C was 40 and tf 'high' normal. Got pregnant again 2months later and diabetes diagnosed at 9w via abnormal GTT. Advised likely Type 2. Metformin, Humulin I and Novorapid used until I gave birth 9 weeks ago.
I'm normal BMI, no family history of diabetes or other risk factors.
I was advised to go for an HbA1C at 6 week post natal review but it ended up being 8 weeks. Result was 55 and I was referred for another GTT. Here come the questions.
My GTT was this morning (at a different hospital to my normal one as we have moved house). I was advised to fast from midnight and attend at 8am. I had my first bloods taken but they didn't give me a sugary drink. Then after 2 further hours fasting, they took second bloods and i went home. My results were 7.2 first bloods and 7.4 second bloods. But why wouldn't I have been given the glucose drink? And why did my sugar levels increase if I hadn't eaten / drank?
I'm fairly convinced I'm Type 2 already but obviously this doesn't appear to be the case just yet. Presume GP will advise monitoring me over the next few months but this mornings GTT has just confused me!
