Guess Pizza is off the menu!

Type of diabetes
Treatment type
Insulin
I had a friend around last night and we decided on a shop bought gluten free pizza, mainly because I haven’t eaten pizza for a long time and I thought I could inject Novo Rapid for it.
I’m not sure what went wrong but I injected 6 units an hour before eating and then another 3 units after finishing the 2 slices I had.
You can see the graph below, but it just shot up and at Midnight after it hit 21 I was doing a correction dose and bouncing on the rebounder to bring it down!
I think Pizza is now definitely off the menu and it’s back to a low carb wrap for me with pizza toppings.

Pizza does not have to be off the menu but it definitely requires some trial and learning (more pizza).
It looks to me as if your split was the wrong way around - you had too much before eating and not enough afterwards.
Due to the combination of high carbs and fat in a pizza, I find I need about 30% of the insulin as I start eating and the rest a few hours later.
But we are all different.

Thank you for your helpful comment, gives me another chance to try Pizza but maybe do as you have suggested, a third before eating and two thirds after eating it.

And when I write "after" eating, I mean two or three hours not just after eating the last bite

Did it say on the box how many carbs were in the pizza , I usually find they are quite high .

Pizza for me is treated the same as pasta , I always take my insulin 3 hours after eating it , like it’s been said takes a fair bit of experimenting but that shouldn’t make it a ” no go “ area

Indeed we are all different, use to love pizza
and beer. Now pizza is off the menu for over 10 yrs. Now I don’t even miss pizza.
The Numbers are in the non diabetic range and life is good.

Takeaway pizza can be difficult for diabetics.

However, if you're UK based and want a more convenient option, I'd highly recommend these:

1.4g carbs per base, they freeze well and only take 10 mins to cook. Load it up with your favourite low carb toppings and you're good to go.

(Just to say, I'm not affiliated with this supplier in any way, just a fan of this product.)

Please don't confuse leaning how to take insulin dose for pizza with Type 1 with low carb eating for type 2.
Yes, someone with Type 2 could eat low carb alternatives but when with friends who generously buy pizza, ithese are not an option.
OP's profile says they are T2 on insulin. Are there not advantages to eating low carb still then, or have I got the wrong idea about this?

I eat Pizza the odd times but only eat the toppings discard the bottom no rise in BG.

Can I just say, your tip is a game changer! I had my first delivery today and … wow! Toast and peanut butter with NO spike!

It's @filly who deserves the credit here, she recommended this supplier to me. Their low carb rolls are decent too, great for a real deal burger.

I'm very happy with the "real food" aspects of low carb, enjoying my meals so much more than I have in years, and I enjoy cooking so don't mind all that. However, it's definitely nice to have some convenient low carb alternatives for quicker meals now and again.
