Hair Thining?

I was diagnosed T2 in March I'm diet and excercise controlled.
I've noticed that my already fine hair is also thinning at an alarming rate.
I'm 51 (female) so I guess it could be hormone related, just wondered if anyone else has experienced this
 
Hi @MissPooh, yesI have a similar experience. In fact it was my thinning hair that took me to GP who did blood tests (for thyroid) which showed Diabetes type 2. As Insulin is a hormone he thought that I was producing insulin OK but my body wasn't taking it up. I tried thickening shampoos, hair loss pills, the lot! I've noticed that when I'm well my hair looks healthier. Good luck to you, hope you find a solution.
 
I'm pretty much freaking out about it @13lizanne and I know if anything that's going to make things even worse.
It's very noticeable now - so I think it's a trip back to the docs for me, not that I think they'll do much.
In my case it could be the diabetes, or maybe not or the menopause, or maybe not....who knows.
I'm toying with trying out Regaine
 
I'd go for the Regaine, if you catch it early I believe that Regaine can make a difference. I was 57 when I was diagnosed so I think that it was probably a double whammy for us both hormone wise, my lovely long lashes also became sparse but I've found a good serum which has fixed that. Let us know how you get on. X
 
My lashes also have become sparse, can you share your serum name or is it a secret? Always had thin fine hair but luckily no difference in that...yet!
 
I'm a bit unsure about the Regaine - l've got high BP but in the balance of things my BP is getting higher with the stress of losing my hair!!!
 

Hi there MissPooh. I use Toppik Hair Fibres and have been using it now for about 5 years. If you saw me you wouldn't know I was thinning, even up close.

Its made from keratin (what our own hair is made from) and is charged with static electricity. All you do is sprinkle it on top of the thinning area, gently pat it to disperse it and it sticks to the fine hairs (even the ones you can't see) as well as the ones you can. It is used a lot in the film industry in make up. It 's amazing. You can get any colour to match your hair and it stays in, even in the rain and comes out when you shampoo. I get a 27.5g tub (small like a pepper sellar)) and it lasts for about two months (and that's using it every day!)

I get mine on Amazon and it cost including post and packaging about £30.

Try it, it really is good. No one believes I've not much hair on top and they refuse to believe me when I tell them !

High blood sugar can cause hair loss, due to the effects it has on the circulatory system. Put simply, high blood glucose chemically reacts with red blood cells causing these cells to become misshapen. These misshapen red blood cells are not as flexible & can get stuck when trying to enter the smallest blood vessels, the capilliaries. If this occurs in the capilliaries that supply blood to the hair follicles, these follicles may die, leading t hair loss.

My BG was in the high 20's when i was diagnosed in February. My hair had become particularly thin on top of my scalp, was brittle, lacked lustre & my scalp was sore with several broken areas. As i regained tight control of my BG, my hair grew back. Its still not as thick as it used to be, but tons better than it was upon diagnosis. I used cosmetic products to increase the thickness of my hair. A good thickening shampoo & mousse. Aussie products are great. But any product made specifically for fine hair will do the job. Hi @soroba1951 I use Revitalash it really does work for me. Its expensive but I buy it from QVC when it's on special. Takes about 3 weeks to see a difference, up to 3 months till maximum results. I save what used to be my chocolate money
 
I've been noticing that every time I brush my hair these days I get a brushful of hair coming out each time. When I was younger I could never buy any of those clip things to tie my hair back, it was so thick that they just ping-ed open. I feel fortunate that my hair was so thick otherwise, at the rate it's coming out at the moment, if it hadn't been thick to start with I think I would be feeling very self-conscious about it now. I'm pleased to hear Alisonjane's comments about if being linked to high BG. I was 22 when diagnosed a month ago and the hair loss has only been in the last year or so, so probably undiagnosed high BG during this time. Hopefully, as the BG level comes down the hair loss will lessen.

Agreed! For me it really was the last straw when my lashes looked as if something had taken a bite out of them. The tube of serum is small but lasts me for approx. 6mths using every night-and it really does work. If I notice Revitalash on special I'll message you x
 
Under active thyroid can cause hair loss as also can low iron. As your A1c is very good I would rule out diabetes being a problem.
 
Hi, I read somewhere that rapid weight loss can cause at least short term hair loss, as it's all a bit of a shock to the system - that could be a reason why some newly diagnosed people report this, if seeking to control by diet/exercise/weight loss. Read too that nuts, esp Brazil's, good for hair - think it's their vitamin Bs.
 
Mine is just growing back after falling out completely - it's collar length now. I'm still not really sure what caused it to fall out but it did it slowly over a period of about six months. My doctor said he thought it was diabetes related but the specialist thought it was stress related. Maybe a bit of both. I know I certainly got stressed when it started coming out. I completely lost all hair, eyebrows, lashes and all over my body and I wore wigs for about a year. Weirdly it has grown back a different colour (darker) but it's still quite fine. I did get a diet sheet, which I've now list, but from memory I recall it recommended venison, lamb, steak, salmon, nuts and dark leafy veg. I also started taking a vitamin tablet each day.

I use thickening or volumising shampoo, conditioner and mousse. It's the mousse that, for me, is essential. I also use a good deep conditioning treatment once a month and I do colour my hair but on the advice of the specialist I don't use products that contain ammonia or hydrogen peroxide
 
Now this is interesting as I started losing head hair, arm hair, legs hair and some body hair several years ago. At that time I had been taking Methotrexate tablets and then went onto injections of a Biological Drug. The Dermatologist at the time did 4 Steroid Injections into my scalp (hair never grew back), some arm hair has grown back but it is very fine and my legs are hairless, body hair is not as thick. So, I am confused now as to what us the cause? Been Diabetic type 2 for 15 years now. Liam.
 
Perhaps those with type 2 are more susceptible to hair loss? After more than 50 years with type 1, my hair is as thick as ever.
 
Hello to All,,,,my thinning hair is now virtually gone from the top of my head,,,in fact the pink of my head can be seen through the very fine hair left on the top,,,,even the sides and back are getting thinner and shorter,,,there is more of my hair in the shower drain than on my head,,!!??,,,so what to do next is dilema I am trying to deal with,,
I cannot brush my hair,,I just use a broad tooth comb,,and comb it slowly and gently,,,,trying to keep al much as possible on my head,,,,my eye lashes have also gone thinner,,,mascara is very hit and miss,,, so I am feeling a bit hair bare,,,,I am begining to do a bobby charlton as a comb over to stop the top of my head shining out pink,,,,will try some of the things given in the posts,,,,,ttfn from Karen.
 
Bad enough for a guy Karen (and yep, I have a full head of hair even at 61) but cannot imagine what it's like for a lady.

Really feel for you. Hope you find a solution. Remember always, you are what you are and if others can't see past that, the problem lies with them, not you. The emphasis on appearances annoy me. Met some wonderful people in my time and many are not what you'd classify as classics in terms of the "norms" we all grew up with. Big deal.

We all see what we see. If you're that shallow that you need to rely on judgement stuff like that, it says a lot more about you than it does the person they seek to avoid. They might never wake up to their behaviours .... as long as you do, that is all that counts
