Hi, RAPS_od, yes we can get Biotin over the counter, and I have taken it in the past, maybe a more sustained plan is what's needed,,,,Karen.I'm a T1 for 47 years and was having problems with my nails - they kept splitting and breaking. I've always had thin hair (even before I got diabetes at age 12). I started taking Biotin, which almost completely cured the problem with my nails and caused a lot of new hair growth on my head. I don't know if it would work for you, but it might be worth checking with your GP. Here in the states, you can get Biotin over the counter.
Hello bkr,,, I will have to take a more concerted attitude to try my best,,, I don't think I could wear a hat or scarf all the time,,,, that regaine stuff is very expensive,,and there are more ads for the men's one,,and more offers,,,and the caffeine shampoo is just taking space on the shelf,,,,but the price is dear,,and I will have to get a bank loan,,, so maybe a late letter to santa might bring me some for crimble,,,well I can live in hope,,,,,ttfn from Karen.I hope you're all getting on the winning side of the battle now, sorry to hear about the troubles some of you have had & are having.
When I was diagnosed my hair was thinner on top, I guess with my age (nearly 40) it would be a little but it did seem to be increasing a little too fast.
The more I have read on here, and also more importantly addressing my lifestyle, diet & HBA1C it seems to be on the mend - as well as using the Caffeine shampoo that they sell online & have recently started advertising on tv. I do use a small amount of regaine too, Im unsure if thats a placebo or not but I feel my hair is richer/thicker than it was which is a big relief. I feel much more 'me' again since focusing more on my well-being & getting into a normal range with a thumbs up from the docs.
Hello Mike D, thank you for your kind thoughts, i will have to get some help, as the thinness is no good in this cold weather!!!, ttfn Karen.
