Been diagnosed as type 2 for around 7 years. On 2000mg metformin and sitagliptin, 103kg, male and three months ago my HBA1C was 67 and had been stuck there for a while. The threat that insulin injections were next if there was no improvement spurred me on. I used MyFitnessApp and put myself on a 2000 calorie a day limit. Scanning and weighing everything can be a pain but it revealed many foods that were unexpectedly loaded with calories. I never ate sweets, chocolate or biscuits before, but I do like my Strongbow cider. The cider has been all but replaced by vodka slimline and wholemeal products have appeared in my kitchen. I have reduced portion sizes and while I haven't banned any food, I am conscious of the ones with the most calories. Only twice have I gone over my target but I blame sunny beer gardens for that. I use the exercise bike a couple of times a week and in 12 weeks, I have lost 10kg. My results today were fab at 35mmol/mol which is 5.4% in old money!
Sitagliptin to stop from tomorrow and will be looking at cutting back the metformin from next review.
