Hi all I'm getting an unusual fruity breath taste in the mouth only happens sometimes in the morning and sometimes during the day my sugars are pretty much under control I do always find in the morning they are in there 8s 9s or 10s is this something to worry about
The exact number of grams (g) of carbohydrates will be different for everyone, but is generally around 20 to 50 g per day. Many people on a keto diet count “net carbs,” which is total carbs minus fiber. Fiber isn't “counted” in the carbohydrate total, because it's not digested.

As a T2 on a (sometimes) very low carb diet, I'll occasionally get this sort of sweetish taste which is simply just the taste of waste ketones being exhaled on my breath. I'm definitely quite happy when I experience this as it's one indication that I'm in ketosis and getting all the benefits of my low carb díét. Nutritional ketosis is nothing to be concerned about and is perfectly normal and natural - as opposed to diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) a combination of high glucose levels, high ketone levels, and a severe lack of insulin. which is a quite different and often very dangerous condition.
You can buy ketone breathalysers which are one way of testing your lebels of ketosis, the others being urine test strips and blood test monitors.
I often still get high numbers in the morning - I guess this might be dawn phenomenon where your liver keeps dumping glucose into your blood stream to get you up and ready for the day. I do find eating breakfast stops this (and I try to stick to something like nuts). I too have awoken with the fruity taste in my mouth, however I find it is always associated with a dry mouth, so wondered if it might be bacterial instead of ketones?
I should really get a ketone tester one of these days!
