Have diabetics been thrown to the wolves during the COVID-19 pandemic?

I'd say the same things apply to viruses such as the flu in which people do get post viral syndrome too.
Bear in mind that most people don't even get symptoms, another large group have mild symptoms but the media has chosen to focus on either the deaths of the 0.04% (most elderly and with many other conditions) and latterly as the death count went down, the 'long covid' thing by relating anecdotes like yours rather than any factual comparison with similar viruses or in any kind of meaningful context e.g. how many people does this actually seriously affect and how many completely recover or don't even notice they have had it!

You cannot compare long covid with the chronic fatigue that you may get after flu. Even some people who barely noticed they had covid are finding that they have complications after the event.
I give up. I have only posted my experience to warn others to stay safe, yet you dismiss my words as if I and others like me who have actually had covid19, and therefore know what they have gone through, don't matter.

All. Several posts have been deleted from this thread for derailing and in some cases, bordering on bickering.

This is an emotive subject, but please pay attention both to the OP and to the forum ethos on polite disagreement/constructive debate.

Thanks.

Hi all, hope you're doing well. I can't figure out how to post a link to the other thread where I wrote this, so I have just copied what I wrote. I hope it helps someone.

Just to debunk the myth that CEV was only for Type 1s with high HbA1c or additional conditions, I received an email confirming I was still on the CEV list and should not go to work.

The guidance states medical professionals can add people at their discretion, one consideration could be job. Teaching is a profession where distancing can be impossible depending on the setting you're in, so my consultant and GP agreed I should shield given the number of positive tests in my local area and school setting. I'm under 40, perfectly healthy weight, HbA1c consistently under 50 over the years, no other conditions other than Type 1. I've been given plenty of tasks to do from home which is alleviating pressure for others at the school and easily equates to me pulling my weight.

I hope you all stay safe!
