Had an Hba1c of 54 mmol last march and was dianosed t2. My gp did not put me on any medication but had given me 3 months to modify my diet and start exercising. Started doing the Low Carb diet and managed to loose 9.7 kg since diagnosis. Yesterday was my first blood test after diagnosis. Hba1c result 41 mmol. Cholesterol from 5.5 went down to 3.5 (on statin 20 mgs). Did not expect the big drop there. Happy but worried Im overdoing it.

Well done @ct379 That's very good progress.

Great reductions in HbA1c, weight and cholesterol levels @ct379!I wouldn't think you are overdoing it, and if I had those figures I would not take statins, but you need to talk to your GP about that.
well done, it's great that you're going in the right direction and have got your HBA1C right down. I had a drop between my 1st and 2nd HBA1C (97 down to 49 between Jan and March) and am due another test later this month, but won't have dropped as dramatically this time round. I'd love a result as low as yours. Keep up the good work.
Super news, very well done! Your story is similar to mine, only I was just put on Metformin without a choice (and too uneducated on diabetes at the time to question it). Just come off the Metformin though and hoping to do the same for my Statin.
Sounds like you are doing really well, be proud of your progress
Very well done, yet more proof that "It can be done", doesn't mean I will but I am inspired by the likes of you to keep trying. @PenfoldAPD Did you feel browbeaten into metformin? I did
Yes very well done ct379, you are a winner keep at it. I was diagnosed type 2 in Jan this year with a reading of 148 April results down to 54 next blood test July.

Hi sounds just like what happened to me. I also was so in shock at the time of diagnosis, that I just took the Metformin without questioning either as I didn't know any different were diabetes is concerned. Then like you after joining this site wish now I could have tried without meds, but who knows what could have happened, it was frightening at the time so who knows. !!1!!Thanks @walnut_face I wouldn't say browbeaten, I just knew nothing about diabetes and so shell shocked I just took the meds as I thought that was the thing to do. Then over time reading this forum I realised what I could achieve without the Met, but had to get cholestorol and BP in check, they now are. Firmly committed to no meds, but also open to using them if needed - I agree that sometimes they are just prescribed as it is a perceived easy route. If the Doc had said in January you have 3 months to clean up your act it's hard to say if my result would be as good, who knowsJust glad to be off it!
