HbA1c going down yay

Hi all, when testing my BG I was alarmed to find that over the last few weeks my levels were getting quite high, the highest being 19.4, so I went to see the doctor, he sent me for my HbA1c test and today I got the results, the doctor was very impressed with me and said my overall control was good as my HbA1c had dropped to 6.1, he wasn't to alarmed about my high levels and said the only test he would go by was the HbA1c, so he told me not to worry so I am not going to worry anymore,I will just carry on doing what I am doing. Now I need to get this Tinnitus sorted, and my doctor said it could be related to me being diabetic, any one heard of that before? Keep smiling
 
Hi,

Well done on your HBA1c. It worries me that your Dr. dismisses your occasional high levels, 19.4, as to get the average you have then there must have been exceptionally low levels as well. HBA1c is an average over the last 8 - 12 weeks. You really need to try and get your levels within acceptable readings throughout.

There may be a connection with the Metformin and Tinnitus, other posters have asked about this before.

If you google statins and tinnitus you will also see some people report this as a side effect of statin use.

I am really trying to get my levels down on an even keel, I dont know why I am getting high levels as I have completely changed my diet, this morning after breakfast of wholemeal toast with an egg my BS was 20.4, as for the tinnitus it started quite some time before I was put on metformin and simvistatin so it isn't them that is causing it, lets hope I get some kind of answer after the hospital appointment in September, thanks for replying to my post :thumbup:

Like Catherine said, to be getting an HBA1c of 6.1 with highs in the 19's and 20's you must be swinging around all over the place.

I note from your profile you've cut crisps (excellent - not easy) . but your breakie this morning put you in the 20's. For me I decided at the beginning to sacrifce the bread in favour of low reads. Not everyones choice but would you consider? Perhaps ditch the bread and add another egg or piece of bacon?
