Hba1c levels quick increase

Sorry to here about your increases in HbA1C.

What is your diet like? Do you limit and/or count carbs? What did you have for breakfast and lunch on the day for which you provided glucose counts?

Have there been any changes in your eating habits in recent months?

I apologise for probably asking a stupid question but when taking glyclazide, do you just take a fixed prescribed amount per day or is it like insuline where the amount taken is adjusted to match carb consumption?

You mention having other autoimmune conditions. What are you prescribed for these? Any steroids? Any changes in medication over recent months/period when your A1C rose?

Mmm a pointer towards type 1 would be the fact that you have other autoimmune conditions. Insist on a hospital appointment with a diabetes consultant. It may indeed end up to be Type 2, but better to play safe.

I’d say it wasnt a normal increase for type 2. Unless you ate masses of extra carbs, had huge amounts of stress and gained weight between that and the previous reading a month earlier I’d say it was pretty quick rise actually.

I’m assuming the metformin and gliclazide were prescribed last week after the 74 hb1ac and that during the rise you were on no meds.

id say this may be a side effect to the metformin. It may settle or maybe slow release would be better.

However I agree you need to push for further testing. Your nurse seems to think it’s a binary choice between type 1 and 2 and seems unaware of LADA which is type 1 but of slow onset. The fast for type 2 rise, along with other autoimmune issues mean you are a good case to be checked further. Keep pushing til they check it properly. If she won’t then try the gp and print the info antje provided to take with you to appointments. If you are LADA the sooner you know the sooner you can be treated appropriately.
