HbA1 - 8.4 is a bad result and your self tests confirm it. I will suggest you to make a doctor appointment. Perhaps you need to increase your medication. At the moment (before you visit your doctor and adjust the amount of your medication) a good thing to do will be to reduce all your sugary things and eat less carbohydrates... (more salads, meat...).Recently I have been having high readings when self testing - up to around 18, and never the low results just before meals that I used to get. I have been diagnosed Type 2 for 5 years, and have so far just been watching my diet, but recent results have worried me as my diet hasn't changed. I had an HbA1c which came back as 8.4 - surprised that it was that low, but concerned that my doctor doesn't wish to see me.Should I assume that my self testing is wrong, and that the dr is right and I am OK to carry on as I am? Or should I go and see him - should I be starting metformin?
Thanks - I'm not currently on medication, so have been controlling it with diet & exercise. I do watch my diet carefully, but my readings have been creeping up.HbA1 - 8.4 is a bad result and your self tests confirm it. I will suggest you to make a doctor appointment. Definitely see your doctor. But if he doesn't think seeing you at this time is necessary then maybe you should find a new doctor?Recently I have been having high readings when self testing - up to around 18, and never the low results just before meals that I used to get.
