How demoralising it must be to put up with such sh** care, can you not change your GP? I had similar threats from a previous GP about not compliance resulting in reduction in their budget. It's a disgrace that type-2s are treated so badly, and not given tools to manage their condition.
Sounds like you're on the ball, and good for you; your diabetes nurse sounds like a complete incompetent who just can't be bothered. If you're not happy with the care you're recieving contact your local PCT PALS service and report it.
As for the statins, I think it's just normal practice for docs to offer them to every diabetic type-1 and 2. I refused to take them as my cholestoral is ok too. Spoke to a type-2 friend today who's just come off them, and feels so much better for it. They can have horrible side-effects.
