Cereals like porridge are not easy to bolus for although some are able to be ok giving the bolus 15-20mins before they eat it as that helps prevent the high although may not stop the low which could possibly be dealt with by eating a lowish carb biscuit. Would your little girl eat something like a blackberry yogurt as blackberries are easily to get hold of at this time of year?

I was referring to a do it yourself type of blackberry yogurt that wouldn't be high in carb at all. Onken plain greek yogurt with some fresh blackberries mixed in with it or blueberries or even some strawberries. These fruits are fairly bg friendly and some artificial sweetner can be added if need be.

An average slice of toast unless using low carb bread is about 17g carb and bread will make your daughter's bg level go up and then drop again.

Yes, the cell novo one looks good - nice to think our kids can use this when they are teenagers. I think they are only going to get better I'll look into the accucheck one. I do love their expert meter. My little girl loves her cereal, so no getting away from it for us! Her favourite at the moment is toasted oats with berries. I think weetabix or oatabix, or any of the bran flakes ones that have higher fibre content - All Bran do a lot of mixes with berries etc now. Breakfast peak is always our downfall as we will peak after. We are trying to test and inject first thing before getting ready so at least half an hour passes before having breakfast which helps. Plain yougurt as suggested is good - with berries. Or if she only likes the fruit ones a little of this with berries. I'll give mine raspberry yeo yougurt with fresh raspberries - 100g is 13carbs, I give around 75g and load with raspberries& blueberries - makes a great low carb snack or pudding. I also only buy mini ice lollies or ice pops now in the hot weather - the full size ones have way too much carbs. Thankfully there seems to be more in the mini size range now, so they don't miss out so much. Re toast, I buy the Warbutons whole meal 400g loaf which is 9.7 carbs a slice. I never buy white anything anymore. Kids still love pasta but I don't give it in the evenings as it takes hours to kick in resulting in midnight highs. It's now a treat at lunchtime when they are active & I can control peaks more. Whole meal spaghetti, seems to work well and tastes great. We also like rice eg. with salmon with broccoli - again we've switched to brown basmati which is lower GI and she does OK. Stir fry nights I have ideal night BGs, a few noodles, beef and lots of veg. x

We are 8 months in. Not sure if we're still in honeymoon or if we even had one, we're on low doses but still not there with our Hb1aC yet! It's hard going, but I've found a huge support from our local network of mums. Although she is the only one in her school and her school is great thankfully.
