Head Ready to explode

Oh i forgot to mention, the Tea and coffee comes with sweetex tablets and no sugar BUT there was plenty of biscuits on offer which were demolished VERY quickly by the 2 ladies running it and the other people who attended.

Thats what I was getting at Didie..I put in my own weight, then three different weights (vastly different by the way) and they all came up with the same plan. the exception is for the highest weight possible, think it was 21 stone.

They advised 9..yes 9..tablespoons of cereal. Think that was waht it said..am open to corrections of course.[/quote]

Yes it did say 9....I tried that too!! So the fatter you are the more carbs you eat to lose weight then??? :***:
I would be back in the 20+'s following this menu that's for sure!! No wonder diabetics cost the NHS a fortune!!

Angie

9 tablespoons of cereal?  I didn't have that much even when I was non diabetic. 'All hail Tony the Tiger' as apparently "They're GREAT!!!!"

Tony the tiger may be, the DUK diet advice certainly is not!!

Yeah, when I was newly diagnosed i had a look at it but it just mimicked "Nurse Deaths" dietary advice that was making my levels increase so i never went back to that site after that.

Probably one of the best choices you will ever make Paul.

Hello I hope you are well. You are the one who knows your own body and what is working well for you. I wish you lots of luck ( you sound as though you are doing all the right things) and if it ain't broken, don't fix it

Absolutely! It's all about tweaking until you find control, some need to tweak more, some need to tweak less but whatever level you're at,if you're in control of your Diabetes then It's all good!

That really is outrageous the amount of carbohydrate in that would kill a herd of diabetic elephants. What gets me is the amount of sugar it's as if they don't realise that SUGAR is CARBOHYDRATE.

How on earth does that relate to even their own guidelines

http://www.diabetes.org.uk/Documents/Reports/Nutritional_guidelines200911.pdf

Let alone the ADA 2011 ones that they reference throughout http://care.diabetesjournals.org/content/34/Supplement_1/S11.full.pdf+html It has a 130g RDA recommendation.

Just do what you know works for you by using your meter. Just bear in mind that as the years pass things can change... so it's like you have to continually adjust things anyhow.

I personally do eat carbs... but not all carbs agree with me. I fair better with grain carbs than I do with vegetable carbs. I'm in real danger of super BGL swings on vegetable carbs. Although I still eat small amounts at times.

It's all trial and error. I did low carbing at one point and increased my meats, etc.... only to have my cholesterol LDL go through the roof. I quickly changed my diet back to reduced fat.

I think at the end of the day it's about balance... and everyone is different.

Exactly, and (no disrespect to ANY insulin user) but there is a big difference between what an insulin user can eat, and an diet only or medication/diet only can tolerate. However, the advice given is a one size fits all, which I believe is very wrong!

Yes Defren.... and I've had the experience with all of the treatments pretty much.... now I'm on insulin. But I'm still careful about what I eat. I don't agree with people saying that people on insulin can eat anything.... in my experience that isn't correct. No matter what stage you're at with your management... you have to tweak that's just how it is. People who think insulin users have it easier are dreaming. I still find management just as tricky as I did when on diet alone. You just have to keep at it really... get to know what works and what doesn't and keep reassessing things.
