Heart attack and stress don't mix

i keep a record of everything I do at home that's related to my health problems, so yeah you're right, I should get printouts from the quack to add to them. Thanks again
 
I'm going to do just that. In fact I didn't get any sleep at all TONIGHT and all of NEXT week (if you know what I mean).
 
Update: I grew some balls today and went down to the surgery. I explained to the receptionist about my concerns over the phone call yesterday and that I am now having to wait 12 days before I get to know what the problem with my blood sample was. She then checked the dates of my appointments and agreed they were too long. I then lost it and demanded a blood sample be taken straight away or I will call the local paper and have this put in next week's publication. My blood was being drawn 2 minutes later. While in the room I asked the nurse about my BMI. He said it was 27.6 but he would like to see it under 25. I weigh 12st 8lbs right now so I think another 1/2 st loss might see that right. He then told me that the reason for the extra blood test was, because everything else came out fine on Tuesday ie cholesterol (perfect), Blood pressure (perfect), Urine sample (didn't show any keytones, glucose or proteins) in it, they were a bit concerned why there seemed to be something coming up about my kidneys but It could be a glitch and not to worry at all about it. Should know soon then what the outcome of all this was really about.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I feel much better now and ready to derail some more threads.
 
Well done Adrian. Proud of you. Did you ask for a print out of the tests? You could then have seen just what the query was with your kidney function - bet you forgot to ask! Try ringing and asking for one (Now!)

Just got out a report from Tuesdays appointment

My Cholesterol readings

LDL = 1.2 mmol/L
HDL =1.2 mmol/L
Triglycerides = 0.8 mmol/L
Total = 2.8 mmol/L
Not sure but when I went to school they would have added up to 3.2 and not 2.8 as the report says or am I missing something??

They seem pretty good, but what do I know.

Oh forgot. My HbA1c has come down from 107 in December to 70 on Tuesday. That's in just 4 weeks.

Your cholesterol and lipids are brilliant, well done.
Have you got your prints of the kidney (renal) and liver function blood tests? That's what I was meaning. If there is a query on the kidneys, you must have had these tests.

OK. The second page are your kidney functions.

Serum urea should be 2.5 to 7.8
serum creatinine should be 46 to 92
serum potassium should be 3.5 to 5.3
serum sodium should be 130 to 146

so those are good

The other is the GFR on the first page. Should be above 60, so that is OK too.

It looks like a problem with the alanine aminotransferase level, (ALT) which is high and this is a liver function, not a kidney function. Have a Google if you want to see what this means.

Also the serum bilirubin is high, should be 0 to 21. This is another liver function.
 
Just checked the BMI calculator and if I could stretch myself to 6' - 6" I would be the ideal weight

I'm sure I have one of these in the attic somewhere.................................
or I could just get me some of these.....................instant 6'-3"

Er,.............. My take on the BMI thing was to get myself a little below the upper threshold, to try to prevent the carousel conversations of teetering either side of 25. When it came to it, I found it a challenge to stop the weight loss, but that's been resolved now.

As you have hidden your profile, I can't tell to much about you, but weight loss could impact quite significantly on insulin resistance, and for myself, that really perked up when I was pretty well within the "Healthy" range. Cure is a difficult concept to discuss, and although I have now been removed from our diabetic register, I remain vigilant, and still (in this environment and in my head) consider myself to be T2.

Have you read Professor Taylor's work? I'm not suggesting you embrace the Newcastle Diet, as I think you would need very close supervision, with your recent (? I think) heart attack, but getting below the elusive fat threshold could be liberating.

It's definitely worth a read, to get one's head around the concepts, if not necessarily his techniques. He states clearly that quantum of weight loss is the key, not how the weight is lost.
 
Sorry yep your right. It was liver not kidney. I'd be no good as a chef would I!

I have just checked out a website regarding Alanine aminotransferase level, (ALT) and found this......................



This blood sample was taken at 8:45 am, just 45 minutes after I'd take my medication which included aspirin and I had an Atorvastatin late on the night before.
I wonder if that had anything to do with it.
