Hi,
am a diabetic type 2 on metformin - diagnosed aged 30 (10 yrs ago), whilst in the cocktail making period of my life. That soon went out of the window!
I'm not a good diabetic at all, as am not the controlling type - so have good control periods, then something happens (get depression too) and everything falls apart.
Have been off the tablets for a few months as haven't been well with the depression, and am now back on them. My main fear is getting ill - as am normally so full of life.
Have avoided blood tests (last one was in November) but am booked in for everything now - so blood test next week, lecture from nurse, me trying hard again not to fall off the taking-drug-wagon.
I've never felt that positive about being diabetic - but am now trying.
My lifestyle is good, active, am self employed - highly motivated in my business, just need to get this diabetes under control and keep it there.
I've joined this community for support, advice and information sharing, in the hope that I'll feel less alone and more supported.
I really admire those of you that have got it 'sussed', and hope that I can be the same before it is too late.

Welcome to the forum,Eva. Hopefully you will soon be as highly motivated in your diabetes control as you are in your 'real' life!
Do you have a blood test monitor, this is essential equipment for getting your diabetes under control.Only by testing before and 2 hours after meals can you find out which foods affect your blood sugar levels.Have a read round the forum and you will find plenty of advice on diets, often confusing and contradictory but the main thing is to find a method of control that suits you and your life style. Please ask us questions, there's always someone with an answer.
