Hello everyone I'm very new in this forum and hoping to get the most out of it. My name is Balde Mamadou I am originally from Guinea Conakry I am now living in Malaysia since three years now, I am 24 years old and I was diagnosed with type one diabetes 3 years ago.

Being of type 1 diabetes was not easy at first all the time having to check my BG levels and having to take insulin three times a day was something else. Despite all that I fought never gave up. Avoided stress as much as I can at my surprise last year my doctor told me that I no longer need insulin that I can shift to pills, I have Been on pills the last 6 months but so far so good. That was a very good news for me not to be taking any insulin shots three times daily. However the fight still continues am willing to do whatever it takes to fight diabetes and I know you all are I wish all of you the best and together let's fight it...!!!

Hello. Good for you I say, coming off of insulin and all those injections must be wonderful! Look at diet doctor website. It will give you a lot of info on duet. I am fairly new to this but, following the LCHF (low carbs high fat) diet works. Have a look and see what you think. X

If you are type 1 diabetic your immune system will have killed the beta cells in you pancreas that make insulin (or if you are a honeymooning type 1 diabetic - LADA or type 1.5 - the beta cells will slowly be being killed off by your immune system) you will eventually need insulin for the rest of your life.

Type 1 diabetes cannot be controlled with tablets and diet alone, and while it might be nice to come off the shots, if you are type 1 it will be a temporary reprieve while you are honeymooning only.
 
Thanks all for your replies @catapillar I thought so too at first but before shifting to pills I stayed a month or two without any insulin and any Meds not because I don't want to but because I could not afford them and surprisingly when I finally got the Meds and to my doctor and did my blood test my result was impressive I must say. Readings were just a little bit high but doctor said that for a type one diabetes who did not take insulin that long cannot have that kind of readings. However I will keep it on track and see how it goes thanks

Welcome Balde I would recommend you get hold of and read "The Art and Science of Low Carb Living" Phinney & Volek, it is one of the best books for LCHF.
