I was diagnosed type 2 in 1998 was 17 stone when diagnosed! Put on metformin 6 X 500mg daily ( 2 morning ,lunch and dinner) controlled never tested sugar was not allowed strips from GP as type 2. Then in 2012 started feeling **** had also started menopause and bang lost total control! Sugars in 20s always. Was put on glicazide as well as metformin. Sugars did not move. Was put on insulin combined pre mix pen twice a day. Sugars came down a bit then went back up. So two years ago was put on novorapid 3 times a day and levemir at night also on 4x 500g metformin and glicazide 2x20mg. Sugars dropped into single figures then suddenly bottomed right out and I was hypoing all the time. So was taken off insulin. Then sugars shot up again so back on insulin and metformin and 2x 40 mg glicazide. Gained some control briefly then sugars claimed again. I joined slimming world in July have lost nearly 2 stone. Am off glicazide but on 28 units of novorapid 3xdaily and 52 units of levemir at night plus metformin. Fasting sugar in mornings lowest 9.7 average 12 and always high before bed am at my wits end and so fed up

Hi and welcome. It does sound like a bit of a rollercoaster. I will tag @daisy1 who will post some great information for you to read. Could you give us an indication of what you would usually eat in a day.

My GP has also increased my statins i am on rosuvastatin 40mg daily and supralip 160mg daily. The reason for the increase is that my tryglicerides are up to 8. Over all colesterol is 4.9. I am very carb sensitive! Bread, pasta, rice and potatoes are a nightmare. So I eat a lot of protein eggs and meat, veg, salad and so on. But then my GP is telling me off for eating too much protein in red meat eggs etc I get so fed up with chicken and turkey! I don't drink anymore and gave up smoking 3 years ago when all my tryglicerides started to rise. I have other health issues including pcos. My diabetic nurse thinks that is why I am having a bad menopause and why I have lost control of my blood sugars. She says it's all hormone linked. I lost my job of 20 years in the NHS due to sickness levels and am now retired due to ill health! Not even 50 yet! Just don't know what to do. Am so fed up and depressed. Am going back to GP next week and asking to be refered to an endocrinologist. Sorry to go on but don't know what to do???
