Hello all, I have today been diagnosed with type 2...my count was 10.7 (not sure if that is high or not to be honest). I am overweight and have a bad diet so I reckon its all my own making (no history of it my family) I have been perscribed metformin twice a day and told to drop a few stone and change my diet.

My downfall as always been crisps and curries...can anyone tell me if I can continue eating curries and chinese and work it all of in the gym?

All ideas and information are welcome...thanks very much

Dave

Welcome to the forum Dave.So... do you want the good news or the bad news first!! Good news is that working out in the gym is a great idea!Bad news is.well ,crisps are made from potatoes a complex carb that puts your blood sugar(BS) up.Curries are usually eaten with rice, another complex carb that puts your BS up!!Sorry!Eat your curries with no rice and it won't be so bad.Crisps not a good idea unless you have the willpower to only eat less than a packet at a time.
Have a good read around the forum and you will see lots of threads about diets ,reducing carbohydrates, different kinds of carbs etc.It is confusing but it will become clear eventually .

I'm also a newbie too (3 weeks now) and I've found that my home made curries actually result in a lower BG reading 2 hours post than prior to eating! good luck and enjoy your curries. you might need to wave bye bye to the crisps and chinese for a while until you can better understand how your body (which is unique) responds to certain food types. let your blood glucose monitor help you
