Hi
I am on the Ncd and it works but again I did my own version of it. Before I contribute I want to make people aware I am not a doctor or any health specialist. But I am well read. I use skim milk for herbal life shakes to ensure I get the vitamins in my body without my body going into over drive.
I take metaformin so drinking my vitamins is a nice change. I eat noodles that are 18kcals for 200g. Look at this on the internet there are various different brands. My diet is mainly veg and my fruit is only m and s raspberry and blue berry packs. Be careful of Tesco and other brands their fruit is gm with more sugar.
At the end of the day each meal I eat is 200kcals. Also eggs, 68 kcals each but high in protein. I eat organic eggs only since my grocery bill costs almost nothing I can buy better quality. On this diet I found myself drinking a lot of water. I put down 3-4litrs per day. Especially if it's hot. I use to be 33 stones until I met my wife. 2 months ago before this diet my meds stopped working on me and I was 23 stones... I am just over a month into my own version of this diet and I am 18.3stones.
My weight has not platoed And my dr is very happy. My meds are working again. Men and women stay away from soya related products for men it increases oestrogen production. Women it might give you fibroids later on in life. Also drink water that has a ph 7 and above to alkalise your body. Tap water has oestrogen in it. Please test it for your self. Kits can be bought from amazon. I live in central London the tap water is ****.
Be careful of what you eat when you go out, especially at Nando's - note their chicken wings for a plate of 10 is 950 kcal. Please read their websites for nutritional advice.
I am on the verge of trying this myself, Tesco shakes sound interesting. What are they called or where do you find them in the store - not by the milk shakes I guess.I did the Newcastle diet with Tesco shakes.
They are made using skimmed milk, so it's incorporated into the calories and nutrients.
I didn't drink any otherwise.
You can't eat unlimited vegetables, ideally they should be calculated to be 200 calories, which is about up to the weight given.
I didn't stir fry with oil, mainly as I preferred to use the calorie allowance on the veg.
I did add a lot of herbs and spices though.
I didn't take multivitamins, as the shakes provided enough.
I didn't want to change any of the original diet, as it seems to have varying results if you do.
So as close to the original as possible, and it did work very well for me.
What medication are you on?

Are the sugars high at 24.5g a shake? One shake is the amount of carbs I have a day...They're in the pharmacy/medicine aisle. They do a range of diet food, but I stuck to the shakes in strawberry, vanilla, or chocolate.
They need mixing well, or they end up lumpy, I used a shaker.

Well, it's the Newcastle diet, not a low carb diet, it reversed my diabetes, and I did it specifically because I don't want to low carb for life.
No, possibly it will take a couple of days for your physiological insulin resistance to abate, but then you'll notice your blood glucose dropping to good levels, and you should see an improvement in fasting BG as well.
If your calories are low, you will use the carbs for energy, whereas on LCHF you use the fat for energy, the carbs really just float around and you see higher spikes.
@Fleegle
If you are uncomfortable with the level of carbs in some shakes (I would be!) then you can shop around for different brands.
From memory, Atkins and Almased are much lower carb. But they are also much higher price.
Other things to bear in mind are the actual ingredients. Soya v milk proteins, and so on.
Nearly every 'diet system' has some kind of shake, so there is plenty of choice.
Great advice @Brunneria I will have a look around because I just don't think my BG would cope well even for a couple of days on that. I realise that it will take to adjust but having recently tried 7.6g of low carb bread and seen my BG go from 6 - 11 in about 25mins and take a relly long fast walk to get them below 8 after almost three hours - carbs make me nervous just now.
Bear in mind not everyone seems to have as good a result with modified Newcastle diets.
It's not a low carb diet, and has never been trialed as one.
My own personal theory behind that is like anything, if you're not using your pancreas, and forcing your insulin resistance to get some work done, it's not going to recover as well.
But definitely give it a shot, and post up how you're getting on.
Again, interesting - I don't think I would want to put myself through 8 weeks then realise that I hadn't quite done it rightThat would be somewhat frustrating. But the Tesco drinks are not the same I don't think - I think I looked up the ones used on the NC diet but you could only get a really small selection from Amazon. Maybe I would need to use these to be 100% sure.
I understand your theory of using the P and trying to get Insulin into the system - but there seems to be an equally strong set of opinions that try and use it a lot less. Very confusing for me I have to say.
Not changing my mind though - I have resolved myself to get through first 3 month check then review my options really really carefully.
Once again - your wise words are not lost on me - just a lot of wise words and not all the same...
