Hiya, Newbie here. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2007, and had been managing it fairly well until about of severe depression hit me in mid 2011. I basically stopped taking my meds (vildagliptin 50mg/metformin 850mg & Gliclizide 80mg, both are 2 pills twice a day). I had my yearly check up this week, and my average sugars were high, and basically I got by backside kicked by my GP. I tested my blood on Monday and it was 18mmol/L. I'm now taking my meds once again, and watching what I eat, and am testing twice a day. I've seen the levels fall quite sharply to be honest. My average is now 6.1, which I think is pretty good to say how stupidly high it was. I did get a reading of 4.9 earlier, which is the lowest I've had for 2 years! I just had a biscuit (choccy digestive, the first biccie in 2 days, and I normally have about 5 or 6 a day, stupid I know).

Anyhow, one thing I do have huge problems with. My local PCT does not recognise the meds I'm on, and it is a reall pain to get them. the last lot my local pharmacy got shipped down from Manchester, and took a week to arrive. Argh. Anyone else on Metformin 850mg/Vildagliptin 50mg? (Eucreas)

Hi Craig and welcome to the forum You have made fantastic progress ! I'm afraid I can't help you on your medication question because I don't live in the UK, but I can give you some information which we give to new members which should help you in your progress in lowering/maintaining your new levels. Ask as many questions as you like as we're all here for you.

Cheers, I'm testing twice a day at the mo, on doctors advice (gasp!), and I had a little blip on Saturday when it was 9.7, and 8.5, but yesterday I tested 6.8 & 4.8, and just after lunch I was 5.2, so I must be doing something right. However I am getting bad indigestion on a night, which is keeping me awake. I also have quite a repressed appetite currently, and am only having something like a sandwich at lunch, and toast on an evening, with no daytime snacking like I used to. I tried doing myself a meal of boiled spuds, carrots & peas for my tea the other night, and got half way through it, and felt very very bloated. Normally I can easily manage that. Must be the meds. I'm going to make an appointment to see my GP if my appetite doesn't return. I know it will be helping me lose weight, but it is making me feel very lethargic.
