Hi Just wanted to say Hello,
I am T2 diagnosed last septemeber-just realised it's actually almost a year ago. Im on 2 tabs of metformin and sposed to be managing via diet/lifestyle. Have to say, I started out pretty good, twixt sept and feb i lost 2 stone and paid a lot of attention to what I was eating and doing...and then since feb I have been a bad boy. night time snacking, sneaked sandwiches, biscuits and the like. managed to out a stone back on-well almost. cut out exercise. let my self subside into letting go into highs. anyway, past frtnight or so, I have reassessed what I am doing, sheesh, my life story, and started on a low carb/vaguely low GI diet with some added extra walking/running up stairs (i am only 42) and feel so much better for it. i am assiduously checking my BS levels and have for the last 14 days been very good with most readings being less than 5 or tops 6.2 mmol.

Anyway, sorry this is goin on-what I am really intereste din and looking to hear from anyone with experiences of is parents with youngsters diagnosed T1.

My kid was diagnosed T1 in feb of this year-when I started on my biscuit craze-and is on a basul bolus trtment, with galrgeen in the am. followed by vaious units of novo rapid post each meal.

We're finding it hard to get a. variety b. healthy options into our now 3 year old; the hospital reccomended he has 40gs of carbohydrate per meal.

And the 40g he does get tends to be of the sort of food that kids often like-far from ideal and im not at all sure it's what id be giving myslef...such as yogs, mini sarnies with thin scraping of nutella...i know doesnt sound right to me....

..it's a great opportunnity for dischord and disagreement in the house...sheesh amundo .

So, there we are, that's me. I am in rural mid wales and am interested to hear of anyone's experiences of bringing up youngster (under 5) who's dgnsd T1

I am looking frwrd to learning a load from this forum so thanks for hearing me out,

best

i wish you all the best with your littlun. my son is a little older, he was 9 in july, but was diagnosed type 1 only last week.
i am still in a complete state about it!
this is my first day on here, but looks like it's full of very helpful people.

Hi ethelwormald and jonesy,

Welcome to the forum. I'm type 2 and don't have children so can't offer any advice but wanted to welcome you to the forum in the absence of anyone else being on line. I am sure a T1 will be along soon and be able to help - you have certainly come to the right place.

Hi JOnesey,
Irrespective of age it's an upsetting time-so my thoughts are with you and yr little un. even tho im very new to all of this and my kid is only 3, in the 8 mnths since diagnosis we've all become far more educated about how to treat him (or at least manage his diabetes) and-perhaps more remarkably-he has shown himslef adaptable and resilient-he is 'happy' to stick out a finger for us to test whil he watches the box or (less so) gets himslef ready fr the novorapid injection. it's a lot to take in and we are still on that steep learning curve but you and they will get thru it -to some other less constantly anxious place-and sooner that you think. Good Luck.
