3 month update, I've just had the results of my latest HBA1c and it came back at 34 mmol/mol - 5.3%. Since April I've lost roughly 70lbs, I was doing low-carb/intermittent fasting and lots of exercise, almost daily. But I got accepted for the "NHS Path to Remission Program" so I'm 6 weeks into that, average glucose sitting around 5.4 according to my Dexcom.
It's not really teaching anything I didn't already know, but it is funding a full meal replacement program for 3 months, then part-replacement introducing more foods later on. It is working, and my fasting blood sugar has come down and I've lost weight during the first 6 weeks.
The good part is probably the funding of the meal replacements, and that I get a diabetic dietician coach with weekly/2 weekly video call meetings that I can ask if needed. There isn't much too it at the beginning except for sticking to the plan, so we'll see how it goes in Phase 2 when I introduce regular meals again.
I was a little nervous starting this after already losing a lot of weight myself beforehand, but you only get one chance at this so I thought why not?
I agree - if you only learn one useful new thing, it's still worth going.
I went on a professional course for a weekend in one of my work disciplines. It was dreadful. I learned one useful thing - and have used that thing for years both professionally and privately, ever since. A jewel found in mud.
