Hello All
I was diagnosed acidentally a month ago, with a staggering HbA1c level of 17.7. I was terrified. Was immediately put on Metformin 500 x3. The doctor was very good, the nurse was a shambles, her info was the standard NHS diet. Fortunately, I am aware of Low Carb, having struggled with my weight all my life.

I took up Nordic Walking some 18 months ago, in an effort to lose weight. Miracle of miracles, very slowly I did. However,it now appears that my weight loss (2 stone) was diabetes induced. I am distraught. Ironically, I felt well, if it wasnt for my raging thirst and peeing at night......

I am on low carb regime and my bloods appear to be a stable 6.3 to 7.4 (average pre and post meal),I have also lost another 8lbs.
How low can i/should I expect them to be? I am keen to try and reduce my meds. I am not coping very well, with stomach pain, violent visits to the loo.

I am also Hypothyroid, being treated with ERFA natural Thyroid.

Mentally and emotionally I struggle at times with depression and grief, its all a bit too much.

I have enjoyed reading loads of your posts, and I look forward to meeting you, in my battle to take control of this.
best wishes
Christine

Hi Christine and welcome to the forum
Your stomach problems could be caused by Metformin - this is a common side effect. There is another version of Metformin called Metformin SR which gives far less side effects so you could ask for that.

Here is the information that we give to new members which I hope you will find helpful. Ask all the questions you need to as there is always someone here to help.

Thank you very much for your reply, its most kind of you.

I asked my GP for Met SR, but he said that it made him worse, and so not worth it. I am seeing him next week and shall ask again. He's usually quite amenable.

Thanks again, it good to know that there is good and kind info out there.

Christine
