Hello

Hello, I have had to re-register as my email address changed. I was formerly Ellen. I am 56 and have had Type 2 diabetes for 8 years now. I have been on Metformin for most of that time and have had other meds added as time has gone on. I currently take 3 Glibenclamide and one Pioglitazone and an aspirin a.m. Then 3 Metformin at lunchtime and 3 more Metformin at tea-time, then a Simvastatin before I go to bed. The Metformin has always upset my stomach so I have decided I have had enough of that and have requested a slow realease Metformin as I understand this doesn't upset the stomach quite as much. Is that correct? I have now been prescribed 1 gram of Metformin Hydrochloride M/R, one tablet to be taken twice a day. I collect these tomorrow. Does anyone else take the M/R version and do you find it ok? I explained to the doctor that at the moment I have to limit my intake of fruit and veg as these also make the problem worse. I am hoping to be able to eat more healthily on the new medication. I hope to be able to eat 5 a day instead of just 2. Any info on the M/RMetformin will be gratefully received! Thanks. Angela. PS At my last test (am due another one soon) my sugar had dropped by .7 simply due to my eating red grapes (one of the few fruits that don't upset my stomach!). I will let you know if it has dropped any further as it may help someone. I have my doubts about it being lower this time as I have had a lot of stress recently due to having investigations on my spine and waiting to hear the results after my next xray (radio-active one this time!).

Hi, thanks for the reply. I phoned the doctor yesterday evening as I wasn't sure when to take the SR Metformin. He told me to take one at breakfast time and the other one in the evening. It seems odd not taking anything at lunchtime. I had a slight stomach ache just briefly today but I don't know if that was just coincidence. The tablets are quite large aren't they? It's good to know that I have got a very new medication. I have a very irritable stomach and always have had, I did find a slight improvement after I started taking a Statin (the cheap one!). I hope to be able to eat slightly more fruit and veg on this medication as it would be a good way of "filling up". I am nearly always hungry and always have been like that.

Hi, I could eat a bit more fat I would think. My cholesterol is 2.6 (4.7 before the Statin). I do like cheese. Years ago we used to fry everything in lard and it was lovely! I didn't feel so hungry then. We gave up lard a long time ago due to all the health warnings. Strangely I wasn't overweight then either!
