I have been on LCHF for close to 6 months. Probably keto-adapted by about Week 3. Fasting blood sugars averaged below 5.5. for the last 4-6 weeks or so. 2hr postprandial has not exceeded 6 in around 6-8 weeks. Pre-evening meal checks commonly yielded 4.7-4.9. Cravings no longer a major issue.
Then, i went on a short holiday.
Indulged in a little 85% chocolate. Ate fish/tofu with dipping sauces. A bowl of beef soup that was a little too sweet for my liking. snacked on too many peanuts. and ate too little fat....
Came back barely in ketosis. Managed to remedy that quite swiftly. Although my baseline is much lower than before, I still hit ketones of 1-2 after food. That is not the issue.
My fasting sugar, random sugar and postprandial readings are elevated and stay elevated for longer. Although not super high (approx 6.5 - 7.3), somehow I have began to experience cravings again and am finding it hard to refrain from eating even when I am clearly not hungry...i remember these urges only too well..i need to get my sugars back down NOW before i start to gorge again..
Thanks Jack! Thing is, since i came home 3 days ago, i have been very low carb, infact less than 20gms per day. & my ketone levels are ok. but with the elevated sugars, i feel like some disjointed version of ketosis..
really need to stop these cravings in their tracks. should i just eat fat when i feel the cravings come on?

Yes! Don't worry too much about the calories for now. As you know, after a while of keeping off the carbs the cravings will diminish. It's much more important to keep your blood glucose levels in check than worry about a few pounds. Nevertheless, try not to go crazy with dairy or nuts.
eat anything except carb, I wouldn't limit myself for a fortnight. fat and fibre are satisfying. I ate coconut oil/creamed off of a spoon.
lettuce wraps are filling, stuffed with your tasty stuff
