I was diagnosed type 2 2 years ago when getting a health check in work. I have never had any symptoms but was initially put on Metformin. This didnt agree with me and I have since been put on Gliclazide 1 x 80mg a day. 4 months ago this was increased to 2 x 80g a day as my average BG was 11.5. Still no symptoms so I guess I wasn't convinced that I had Diabetes and I have lost weight.
For the last 2 weeks I have had a raging thirst and a pounding headache, so decided to go buy a meter. To my horror my BG this morning was 17.9 and this afternoon 19.5. BIG wakeup call!!!!
I now need all the encouragement I can get to get this down and yes I will put an appointment on with my Diabetic nurse for next week.

Hi Rosemary Have you been sticking to the low carb diet that I think you used to do in the past? Cutting carbs is the way to get your levels down. Drink plenty of fluids too. Do also carry on testing now that you've started again, especially before and 2 hours after meals to see what you can or can't eat. Maybe you could do with getting back to basics. I think you joined the forum before this basic information was written by the former Monitors so maybe this might refresh your memory on how to manage your diabetes better (just ignore the mention to "newly diagnosed"!). I hope this helps you.
