Hi I'm looking for some help on where to start. I'm T1 on lantus/ Novorapid and soon to be on a pump, just waiting on a start date.

My weight has been increasing recently due to my over indulging with food to make myself feel better (my dad recently died and it's been a bit of a **** time) which it doesn't and I just feel guilty then I have to take even more insulin.

I think LCHF will help lose weight and get myself back on track but I don't really know where or how to start.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Janny

So sorry to hear about your dad JannyC, may I offer my condolences.

There are members who follow a LCHF diet and have type 1 diabetes, hopefully they'll be along soon to offer you some advice. Good luck with the pump.

Hi Janny,

sorry to hear you're having a **** time and sorry to hear of your father's passing.

As you know, there's a lot written about LCHF and I personally have benefited from the LC bit. HF isn't for me as I don't need to replace calories, I'm storing 100lbs worth in the form of superfluous adipose tissue AKA fat. Also, I think years of LF have left me with a stomach that doesn't tolerate fatty anything.

Perhaps a simple way to start would be to stop eating pasta/rice/potato/bread, maybe one at a time and probably bread first.

If you wanted to go further you'd have to look at Paleo and Atkins type diets.

Most importantly, different forum members will give different bits of advice, all valid, at the end of the day, you have to settle for what makes you happy. Don't forget to use the meter often to see what affects you and what doesn't.

All the best
Graham

Hi Janny

I'm in exactly the same place as you at the minute. I've been researching LCHF for a few weeks now using both the forum and a few other sources. A book that I've found to be quite informative is Dr Bernsteins 'Diabetes Solution'...also his own story is quite motivational in itself.

There is a lot of information to take in and if you're anything like me it's not something that will come naturally overnight. I love my carbs and to some extent having followed the NHS recommendations for 15years now I've been conditioned to the point that it still feels a bit wrong not to include them in my meals. However I have put the low carb thing to the test a few times now and have been shocked by the results so I am keen to give it a try.

I will be following this post with interest.
