Hi there, been type 2 for years now been on metformin last year up to 3,000 as I was Carer for my husband who was terminally ill. My levels had gone up and I didn't want to take glicazide. Any way long story short now sadly I am in a position to take glicazide as levels went up to 7.8 so still on 3,000 met and. Ow 40 glicazide with breakfast. Well it is awful. Some days as long as I remember to eat a banana half way between breakfast and lunch then I am ok, if not then lows of 3.5/3.8. Levels in morning are between, 7/9. Mostly lower reading. I exercise daily at gym but now I darn go in morning as if I get to low is impossible to sort. Yesterday I didn't eat banana and by 12.30 eating breakfast at 8.30 I was 3.4 felt awful. Got it to 4.6 ate lunch but never went higher than 5 whatever I was eating and just felt awful despite chocolate and lucozade. Felt very weak in my muscles and heady. So here I am starting again today. Reading today 7. Any tips please.also put on weight on this drug.

It sounds like you probably need to have a talk with your Diabetes team really.

It sounds like maybe your meds may be a bit hefty when you're exercising, and maybe taking the Gliclazide (which is likely to be what's driving your bloods down) later on in the day when you're not exercising, would work better for you. However, that's just my layman's view, based on your message. I'm not a health care professional and you shouldn't change your medication or how you take it based on my message.

Give your team a call. It could be you can cover this in a phone call, rather than actually going in. At my practice it's usually easier to get a phone appointment than a face-to-face one. In the meantime, it sounds like you need to keep testing quite frequently - especially if you drive.

Good luck with it all.
