Help with DLA form please!!!

In my expereince of DLA forms for my mother - though not for diabtes on its own. It is always best to get help from the experts. We filled it in ourselves the first time and got turned down.

She reapplied at a later with the expert help of age concern and was given it, even though her circustances had not changed. Don't risk loosing the dla by being in a hurry to get the form filled in.

If you go to the Diabetes Youth Club board and search, DLA, you will see that there are some contributions to this topic that will be of use to you.

Hopefully some parents will be along to help you soon.

I have had experience filling in DLA for my son (Aspergers & ADHD) and the advice you have been given so far is correct - you really do need help of a professional to fill it in as the government are getting less & less likely to give the money - yet you are entitled to it as you do require more support!

I have successfully got mine and a friends (her son has dyspraxia etc) but by the time we had finished filling in the form you would have cried! It was awful writing down all the things that go wrong - get someone to help you - the support will help you too.

Check your forms..

You will find that they are dated from the point they sent the form to...

So if there is a time lag, between the point that you recived and get the appropiate help, they will take the date from here, and not when they recieved the form, I think will back date by 3 months but this should say on the form..

So has long as you don't mind waiting, 15th Sept is only a few weeks away and apart from waitng for the money you won't actually lose out..

Another tip, if when asking the question always work on the worst, so if out of a week, you have4 good days and 3 bad days, your answer will all be based on the bad days...

I have Just done all this and I also went down the wrong path filling out the DLA form myself :cry:

PLEASE DONT you may well get turned down as I did
eg
I am stuck in a wheelchair due to a accident I was refused DLA 1st time around
The refusal letter came back saying that I could walk over 400 meters ? :shock:
I had to go to court to overturn this with consultants letter saying that it would be imposable


Get help from CAB http://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/
CAB will help you and fill forms out for you CAB will also help if your turned down
or you may have local welfare rights officer who will also help
Include as much proof as you can
Include letters from your doctor
Include letters from consultants
Include anything that will strengthen your case

Just want to say, do hope all goes well for your DLA application.

I have received this vital support for a while now and the application process is a toughie but not impossible.

Do get advice and as much evidence as you can,don't rush in filling the form in. it needs time to consider how best to answer the questions and photocopy the completed form so you can refer back to it if you need to appeal or reapply or you have to have a medical. I had a doctor come to my home and do a 45 minute medical but this turned out to be a good thing in the end. As she could see other problems I have and how they affect me.

The www.dwp.gov.uk site has downloadable pdf files available about dla and other benefits which is useful.
