Type 1 Helpful foods/drinks for hypos

How old is your dad & what insulin regime (type of insulin.) is he on?
Where are you roughly based? The types of products per country may vary...

He is on Novo Mix and he is 52 years old. He was diagnosed roughly 12 years ago with type one diabetes, but does not take care of him self so he went Ladar and is now insulin dependant.
He unfortunately drinks more alcohol then he should which always influences the amount of units he puts in- e.g. if he barely eats for the day or does not eat enough carbs, he will still put in 10-15 units of insulin regardless of his BGlevels. So unfortunately hypos happen often in our house...

May I ask what sort of alcohol your father drinks? Spirit or beer..

Sorry for the questions. Helps build a picture of where to help regarding your father's diabetes & BS managment.

OK, thanks.. I'm not suggesting your dad shouldn't have a little drink.
However, the dangers are that too much alcohol (inebriation) masks hypoglycaemia.. Also alcohol keeps the liver buisy during its process, retarding "liver dump" of glycogen into the blood stream. Which can cause more severe drops in BS?
Couple that with insulin..

Your dad sounds like he's on a fixed dose of insulin & thus eat a set amount of carbohydrates per meal at regular times...

What is your father testing at on these morning lows...?
