Hi all...New Type1.

Thanks @noblehead!

Just been out for lunch.... Def finding carb counting a lot harder when out and about!!! Expecting a high later

25, do you have a smart phone, of course you do, what am I saying!

If you're eating at one of the larger chains like Waggamamas etc, you can often find nutritional info for your meal on the company website. With a bit of experience you"ll be able to make a rough guess at the amount of carbs in your food order.

Thanks so much for the reply @TorqPenderloin

Nice to hear some positive words! Ur right! It's a lot to take on board and I'm learning all the time! Is there anything u would recommend reading?

Hey @Shellbellx, I've already spoken to you on my newly diagnosed thread, but have just read through yours and wanted to say hi again! We really are in the same boat at the moment!

Do you feel totally ready to go back to work in the new year? I will have had two weeks off by new years, but I don't feel ready at all, far too tired every day and with BG readings 13-22mmol/l I'm not sure it's the best idea. Has your work been supportive? xxx

Hey, also new to this & diabetes.
Was diagnosed type 1 just over a month ago. Have grown up with some knowledge as 2 out of my 3 younger brothers were diagnosed 8-12 years ago, but I'm learning everyday. Diabetes sounds a lot easier to deal with than it actually is. It's really hard, I find myself more emotional the past few weeks, it's been awful. But I'm feeling better now. Getting used to it I guess. Excited about meeting & talking to new people about it & learning more & more.

I agree with u, u should def take some more time! Especially until ur sugars are better too

Last week I felt ready and my blood sugars were a lot better, and most of them normal range! This week however they have been all over the place, I've had 2 hypos
so back to feeling frustrated and emotional!! I'm going back on the 5th and have an absence meeting on the 7th, so I shall how supportive they are then! I'm really nervous about going back but I suppose I have to at some point! Feel ill at the thought

Hope uv had a good couple of days @lizziewizzie xxx

Hi @Neet1z, it's nice to hear that when you think your alone that there's many people in the same position.

I'm very emotional at the best of times so you can imagine how I've been! I'm very up and down! And I think it's going to be a case of good days and bad days

At least u have some knowledge due to ur brothers which is good, sometimes I feel very clueless!! Everyday I'm learning.

Keep me posted on how ur doing, hope ur blood sugars are better now x

Hey! Yeah, same with everything I guess with good & bad days. Luckily haven't had a bad day in the past 3/4 weeks. But it's still early days. There's so much to learn. I'm quite fussy when it comes to food so finding different stuff to eat is hard as I get fed up quick. Going to start having smoothies for breakfast instead of cereal as I will be able to put heaps of stuff in them, even stuff I don't really like so that should be good when I came out of hospital my bloods were between 12 & 16 no they're somewhere between 8 & 14. How are you getting on? How was new year? Did you have a wee drink? Happy New Year!! Lol xx

No recommendations for you and here is why.

There are a lot of conflicting opinions about what works and what doesn't in diabetes treatment and management. If I shared what I thought has helpful it would be somewhat biased. I'd recommend reading from many different sources as it will help you decide what you do and don't believe.

I will say that the book "Think Like a Pancreas" is highly recommended. I've only read excerpts from it, but it's next on my personal reading list.
