A result of 6.4 is high end of normal and doesn't indicate that you are diabetic by itself.
It also depends on wether the test was fasting or if you had something to eat or drink in the few hours before it.
So saying there is no reason why this site should not benefit you even if you are not diabetic>

What you really need is a Full Lipid Panel which gives you a breakdown of the different types of cholesterol. The standard result with Type 2 is low HDL, high LDL and sky high triglycerides, all of which can be improved by lowering your blood sugar, which normally means reducing your carbs.

Ideally your new doctor should look further into your thyroid, and preferably give you an actual *number*, many doctors will not treat hypothyroid until you are almost comatose whereas our local crew are very proactive. I know people who have had to physically move to get TSH of 5 or even 10 treated, which has greatly improved diabetes, depression and other conditions.

Type 2 is considered to be a progressive disease and the best way to ensure it doesn't progress is to treat yourself as if you are already diabetic *before* you get diagnosed

I'm a newbie here myself, but I've just been diagnosed hypothyroid after a partial thyroidectomy. For 10 years my doc's been saying that my thyroid reading was "borderline, but not enough to do anything about it, we'll do another blood test in 3 months". In a way, it's a relief to now be diagnosed and get something done about it.

Just because your blood result didn't show up any hypothyroidism, doesn't mean that there aren't other tests which would. I wish I'd know about this years ago, I would have insisted that my doc do some more tests, or referred me to someone who has a clue about being a doctor! It grates on me just a little that MAYBE if the thyroid could have been detected earlier, MAYBE I wouldn't have had to shovel tablets down me for high cholesterol, high triglycerides and now diabetes etc.

I would keep on at the docs until you get your thyroid either ruled out of the equation for definite, or get it diagnosed and treated.

Annoying as hell, isn't it? A friend had a heart attack before she managed to get her hypothyroid treated, and she also discovered she had failed a Glucose Tolerance Test in childhood and no=one had bothered to tell her (her parents were told to give her a low-carb diet but without being told why). Some doctors are so convinced there's nothing that can be done that they don't bother to do anything. We're here to prove them wrong!
