The doctor has told me I'm pre diabetic but can still escape diabetes with weight loss etc. I'm here to look for more information.

Hi gmartfin and welcome to the forum The doctor is right - it is often possible to avoid pre-diabetes progressing to full diabetes provided you work at it. Here is some information that we normally give to already diagnosed new members but I think it would be beneficial to you to follow this advice. Some of it is only relevant to already diagnosed diabetics, and some information is only relevant to the UK. Ask as many questions as you like as we are all here to help.

Hi to our Canadian friend! Agree with all Daisy says. Unfortunately I wasn't picked up in time, went through the pre-diabetes bit and became full type 2. Nonetheless, by lowering my total carbs to about 170-180 a day, and avoiding TOO MANY of the starchy ones Daisy lists, (I don't avoid them all!), I keep my blood sugar levels down to almost non-diabetic levels with no medication. I'm sure if I'd started this when pre-diabetic I'd have been able to go back to a non-diabetic state.
Fortunately, I find a few glasses of Red Wine before a meal help to keep my levels down as well! If I have a beer, (or two!) I have Coors light which should be readily available over there, as it's got half the carbs of normal beers.
Good luck! Keep us in touch with your progress!
