Hi, I'm really stuck with improving my BG being threatened with Insulin - need advice please!

I eat berries but tend to leave most other fruit.

Yes I enjoy berries too and use them in lots of recipes. Try chia seed pudding: http://www.skinnytaste.com/2014/08/coconut-lime-raspberry-chia-pudding.html You can add berries to either of these 2 recipes before baking: http://www.taste.com.au/recipes/6355/baked+egg+custard

Make chia seed 'jam' http://www.countingalljoy.com/2014/...ma-gaps-scd-paleo-sugar-free-gluten-free.html and use on low carb muffin: http://beautyandthefoodie.com/quick-paleo-english-muffins/ or stir into yoghurt with some chopped nuts or flax
Make pancakes: http://www.ibreatheimhungry.com/2014/07/egg-fast-recipe-snickerdoodle-crepes-low-carb.html fill with berries and top with double cream Hope this helps with some ideas!

Thanks! Sausages can be high in carbs but if you look for the high meat content ones (generally the more expensive ones!) they're ok. The main thing I find helpful is to keep a very accurate log of my food in MyFitnessPal - that allows me to make sure I control my calories and my macro nutrients - when I first started, I used it to ensure I kept below the 20g of carbs and now I use it to balance my diet out and ensure I'm keeping a sensible amount of calories and macros: it's very easy to kid yourself about what you're eating but when it's there in black and white it keeps you on the straight and narrow

If you use something like MyFitnessPal and test your blood regularly, nothing is absolutely banned: it all depends on how you react after eating it and if it fits into your nutritional plan - for example, I can eat bread now but not potatoes so I include bread in my daily diet but not potatoes

Thanks for the links. Love the idea of muffins and pancakes. Baked egg custard has sugar in it? Should it be a substitute?

Question, I love my cup of tea, occasional cappuccino. Should I be using semi skimmed cow's milk on the LCHF or another type of milk? I need to buy a good plain speaking book to kick this diet off - any other recommendations?

Have been on this diet (following as best as I can without buying stuff in for the grocery cupboard yet). Kept off carbs wherever possible but have managed to put on several pounds! Is this normal when starting out? Feeling a bit disappointed.

Full fat

I am in a similar position to you, I have no advice to give but have to say my diabetes has followed a similar pattern to you, and I have done the same sort of things to try to improve my blood sugars, my only weakness is a good curry, I did make my own but my sugars went a bit silly, now I eat several curries a week but all ready meals with between 500 and 600 calories, I know the ingredients and eat jalfrezi which is higher in vegetables and was helping me stay under 8, now it has risen again and my diet is not able to control it, I am going on insulin in a few days, I just have to see the nurse, the prescription is ready and waiting, I will be eating to my meter again until I am used to the new regime of diet, insulin, metformin and gliclazide, oh goody(sarcastic)
I hope you can stay off the insulin a bit longer.

I totally concur. My BG was also out of control, and using the same low carb high high fat diet I was able to get my BG down to and average of 5.6 fasting and after meals within 3 months. No sugar, grains, no potatoes, no starches, no fruit. Plenty of green leafy vegatables, salad dressings with oil and vinegar, mayonnaise, and eggs. Lots of meat, cheese, and fish. Olive oil and coconut oil are very good if you are afraid of animal fats, but don't be. Butter and lard are all very good as well. Good Luck!

Sorry to hear that you are going over the precipice, hopefully you will be able to regain control and leave off the insulin once you are stabilised.

Oh sorry, replace the caster sugar with equivalent amount of sweetener of choice
