I’m a nearly 62 year old man
Married with 2 children and 1 beautiful granddaughter
I was a fanatic sportsman mainly rugby playing at a good standard.
I was a police officer, private detective, general manager of a rugby club and also an seller of artisan pies- not the best jobs for a diabetic
I retired from rugby and sports early 30s after becoming a father.
Unfortunately due to various circumstances became obese and was for about 15 years
After being diagnosed with gout was informed I was pre diabetic plus sleep apnea, I was heading for an early death
I made changes but not enough and was diagnosed with diabetes 2, right at the start of covid and through diet and exercise was able to reverse but stupidly relaxed and after my last checkup it was back.
I was prescribed Metaformin and then sukkarto completely messed up my bowel movements and now on Truilicity , I have to inject once a week.
I’m exercising hard 2000+ metres 5 times a week swimming, rarely drive cycling everywhere and home weights, my diet is far better and reduced my alcohol intake and also changed what I drink
I’m due my first check up this month and hopefully will have reversed it again

Hi Mossy28,
Welcome to the forum I'm sure you'll find a warm welcome from all and learn a lot of stuff about diabetes.
One of the main things I've learned here in the past few weeks is never turn your back on it, it will turn and bite you on the b u t t!
I am trying the low carb diet which is certainly helping me lower my levels. Do you have a blood sugar monitor? If not then I urge you to buy one so that you can see which are your spike foods.
Anyway, welcome and look forward to reading more of your posts

Thanks
I’m going for a check up soon I will discuss with the excellent and frightening diabetic nurse

There's a phrase often mentioned on here which basically says you can't out run (or out swim or out cycle) a bad diet. And in the case of those of us with diabetes that bad diet is any that contains more carbs than our individual bodies can cope with.
It sound like perhaps youve been trying either low fat or low calorie, which may have a short term effect, but the real key to keeping diabetes under control is low carb

Would you share a days typical eating and drinking? Then we can suggest adjustments

Hi
Yes I realise you are probably right
I do eat too carbs
Bread etc
With alcohol- how long is a piece of string
Last night sat in the garden I drank a bottle of red wine over the course of 4 hours with food but I can not drink alcohol for a week
I don’t weigh myself but I have lost weight as my clothes are loose
I realise the implications of diabetes but I don’t want to lead a too strict diet
I feel so much healthier and fitter

The great news is - you don't have to have a too-strict diet. All you have to do is avoid carbs and sugars. All carbs and sugars. What's healthy for a non-diabetic isn't healthy for us. But there are loads of delicious things you can eat, and as much as you need. Once your BG is stable in a suitable range, there will be items you can re-introduce, using caution and measuring the results. What we can and can't tolerate is different for all of us. It's some voyage, but you will feel better and better.
