I've just joined the forum although I've been a type 2 diabetic for over 10 years. My blood sugar - taken by the doctor yearly - the 3 month one - has waxed and waned. I've been diet only, then on Metformin, then diet only again and then back on Metformin. For the last 3 or 4 years it was always under 7 and my bs looked after its self. This last year my values have gone up. Firstly to 7.8 - Metformin increased by 1 to 4 x 500 mg a day - then down to 7.6 and finally 7.3. I have until August to work on my diet and bring it back under 7 or the doctor will add to my tablets.

So here I am. I've given up sugar - using Xylitol gum and checking my blood sugar 3, 4, or 5 times a day to see which foods suit and which don't. I will be asking questions and reading the forum in the hope that I can sort this out. Both my father and brother are diabetics - both think my doctor is nit-picking because of how 'normal' my sugar is, but I prefer it that way.

Hi ailz and welcome to the forum It sounds like you need some help to get your HbA1c down quickly. (I assume you are talking about HbA1c and fasting levels). I know you have been diabetic for 10 years but there's some information I think you need to know. Here is the info the Forum Monitors have prepared for new members (just ignore the bit about "newly diagnosed") and I think this should help you get on track.
