Hi,

Ive sort of been diagnosed type 2, had a glucose tollerance test fasting 7.1 and 2 hours after the sugary drink 10.1. Im having another test in a months time but gp has said its just to confirm. Ive lost one stone being on the low carb diet. At the moment the gp has said just to keep up with the healthy life style, i have not been told to test , i have been testing before and after meals highest is 7.1 which happend once and then 6 6,8 after that. The most trouble i have is taking the blood i havent managed to do it my self, i just cant am too scared . Im a nurse so i take peoples blood and stuff all the time its very strange. Also i keep thinking this second test is gunna prove am not type 2. Its very scary x

Hi truffles and welcome to the forum
I felt like you about blood testing - so much so that I wouldn't admit that I had diabetes. Eventually I went back to a doctor and the nurse presented with me a testing kit and showed me what to do. I was already surprised at the finger pricker as I didn't know that sort of thing existed. Shows how little I knew about it ! She gave me the choice of trying a test there or at home and I sort of felt pushed into doing it straight away. I just took a deep breath and did it and was surprised at how painless and easy it was. It's just the first time that's hard and, even though you have done it to patients, it's different when it's yourself. I never had any problem since. I think probably lots of members felt the same.

You are doing the right thing eating low carbs. Testing is necessary regardless of what they tell you as you need to be able to work out which foods you can eat and which not. See what effect they have by testing after 2 hours and comparing the results to your before meal reading.
