Hi I am Gemma, I am 29, have type 1 diabetes have had it for 9 years in April since I was diagnosed with it after my first daughter although they are sure I had it un diagnosed before. I am currently a student nurse in my first year of uni. I have 3 daughters and a husband
Hi gemma, welcome are you on mdi or pump? Also have you been on a carb counting course. Any questions please ask, I'm sure you will get alot of help and support here of you need it.
Hi I am on novo rapid injections and lantus I have after a pump for 2 years now but have been told I am to old for one I need to do a carb counting course but the nearest one to me is ok to get to but the time they finish as they are at night men's walking along way to the nearest bus stop through a very dark park so don't feel safe ( I don't drive ) plus with uni and 3 kids finding time is impossible and don't mix with diabetes
Thats non sense that you are to old for a pump. Some pumpers havnt started till 50 +. Age isn't a criteria for refusal of pump. you would however need to do a carb counting course prior to having one. If you hasn't done a carb counting course run by a dsn, there is a free on line one you can do but don't know the name of it sorry. Maybe someone here does.
I did find an online course I told my consultant about it he wouldn't accept it my dsn I did mention it to her but she still wants me to go on a course
It is a good.course and would be worth doing if you can fit it in somewhere. I found it very useful and also enjoyed meeting fellow diabetics as I didn't know any other diabetic. I have been accepted for the pump, just waiting for the call to get it.
