Hi to all
am not a newbie but have been in wilderness for some time ignoring the fact that I have diabetes t 2 and now want to get on top of it as fed up of swallowing tabs

Welcome back, Pete. Hope your four years in the wilderness haven't done too much damage. Now you can start on the road back. I expect you know the ropes from the guide @daisy1 gave you, but ask whatever you need to know.

Hi Pete and welcome back

I too was diagnosed in 2011 and for 2 years just took my tablets and kept eating the same foods. Then I got sick of the symptoms I had such as fatigue and persistent skin rashes and colds caused by high blood sugars. So I started eating a low carb diet. I lost a lot of weight over 1 year and my blood sugars dropped into the normal range and my diabetes-related symptoms disappeared.

Then I got complacent and started eating carbs again. I regained some of the weight but my blood sugars didn't go too high. This lasted for about a year, then I decided to lose weight and get healthy.

For the last 2 weeks I have been eating a low carb diet with full fat foods such as cream, butter, cheese and full fat greek yoghurt. I feel heaps better and the food is tasty and easy to prepare. And I have lost 3kg (almost 1 stone).

Changing your diet is not as hard as you might think. It just requires a little bit of planning and shopping to get the right foods in the house. It also pays to throw out the foods that might tempt you, or put them in a separate area of the fridge, freezer and kitchen.

Good luck and please ask us any question you like.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I'm sure with a bit of perserverance and lifestyle changes you will be able to take a step in the right direction in regard to coming off your meds.
