Hi all. I was diagnosed with T2 at the beginning of May with an A1C of over 11% (fasting bg at 18!). I'm currently taking 2000 Metformin a day, and going back and forth between 6-7 units of Lantus (started off with 10 at the end of May) After realizing that the typical diabetic diet of high carb/low fat wasn't the way, I did some research and started with low carb. My numbers responded wonderfully - 4s, 5s, and the occasional 6. Whenever my morning number reached the low 4s, I dropped my nighttime insulin dose by 1 unit. At my last dr's appt a couple of weeks ago, I was told I lost 22 lbs, so that was great news. The specialist was fine with the low-carb diet as well. I haven't had the follow-up A1C numbers done yet, but according the app I have, I expect it to be in the low 6s.
I'm determined to beat this thing, so I started reading the work of Dr. Fung and started on IF within the last couple of weeks. I'm basically on the 16:8 regime (give or take), but my numbers have been climbing steadily upward. My morning numbers are still good, but the numbers go up as the day goes on. I'm actually getting in the 8s and 9s now, which scares me I have to admit. The numbers can go up a lot after a low-carb meal as well and can take a long time to come down. I know Dr. Fung says that it's normal for the numbers to go up while fasting, but have any of you had this experience?
