High Post Fast glucose

Hi there, my question is directed to forum members with type2 who have experience with fasting. Specifically has anyone experienced a disruption of their post fasting blood glucose patterns with increasing glucose levels in the week after a fast? I am currently experiencing higher than normal blood sugar readings after my recent 72 hour fast. I am using the Freestyle Libre CGM and replaced the sensor two days ago. At that time I noticed my usual daily pattern was starting to fluctuate and was trending up to higher than normal readings. For example, my midnight to 3 am readings before the fast had been fairly stable and within the range of 5.8 - 6.2 mmol/L. In the last two overnight periods my post fasting values during this same time frame began swinging between 7 - 8 mmol/L on about a 30 minute interval. Interestingly, this not awake me. I have calibrated the new sensor against my blood and it is accurate within .2 mmols so I am confident that these unexpected reading are not the result of a faulty sensor or attachment. It would seem that the fast has had a dramatic effect unlike anything I have seen after previous 72 hour fasts, the last of which was 5 weeks ago. I would be interested to hear of others who may have had a similar experience and explanation of their symptoms. Cheers/

Hmm sounds interesting.. I often get higher than usual readings after an extended fast for a couple of days aftre experiencing much lower readings during the fast.
Might need a bit more info though..

What kind of dietary regime are you following and for how long?
How long have you been diagnosed? HbA1c level at diagnosis and now?

I guess I would describe my diet as "plant-based keto" insofar as I don't eat any meat but I do backfill the calories in my salad-centric diet with nuts, seeds, and olive oil based salad dressings. When I need extra protein I use pea protein powders along with the occasional vegan burger. I also consume modest amounts of cheese. I began eating this way five years when I was first diagnosed with an HbA1C of 9.2% at age 50. Shortly after I was diagnosed in 2015 I started on 1.5 grams per day of a time-release variant of metformin called Glumetza. My HbA1C immediately fell to 7.2 where it remained for over 4 years. While I was not excessively overweight at the time of diagnosis and was physically active in the world of triathlon, I still lost 30 lbs of visceral fat over a 6 month period. I began intermittent fasting using an 18-6 interval 3+ years ago. I found skipping breakfast quite painless as I was never hungry in the mornings anyway. I also added the occasional two and three day fast. Today I weigh 164 lbs and have a BMI of 24. I stopped the metformin 6 months ago and doubled down on eliminating medium to high glycemic index carbs including all baked goods and starchy vegetables. I also decided to increase the frequency of my three day fasts to monthly. This seemed to be successful in that my HbA1C is now down to "pre-diabetic" levels of between 6 - 6.5% with no metformin. In the last few days I have been reviewing anything I may have consumed that may have caused the unusual readings I have been getting since ending my fast last week The only thing I can think of is a single slice of pumpernickel bread that enjoyed during my refeeding period. My sense is that I may have developed an intolerance to the flour(s) in this bread. In turn this could be causing inflammation and disregulating my glucose. That's the only hypothesis I can come up with at this point, so I am waiting for four or five days until any traces of the bread have left my system. Cheers/
