high protien diet

I have completed four days of the hp diet now and have seen some positive results with my sugars. Obviously I am not going to leave it to long to see if there is a drastic effect to my cholesterol levels.
At the very worst I will have to ditch it having at least enjoyed some real food again. 8)
enjoy your wine.

being healthy doesnt mean eating boring food - i eat amazing food but no procesed rubbish. I think that anyone who wants to eat well has to cook- its a passion of mine!

I do enjoy cooking and until now have always been aware of what I eat. One of the things that vexed me the most after I was diagnosed was that I wasn't overweight and certainly didn't eat unhealthy food, i don't even have a sweet tooth so i never missed suagar that much either. Infact I have a big oversion when it comes to junk food and would never dream of putting a foot through the door of Mc donalds or any other fast food joint.
The hp diet so far has also contained lot of leafy greens and fresh herbs (home grown) ,carrots and onion. I have also used unsalted nut kernels to gain protien instead of meat. The fact is I have just been able to kick my shoes off for five minutes without having to worry too much about it and it feels good. My sugars have gone down to boot.

Hi
When I first posted this thread I was just about to start the high protien diet. I am now into my 9th week and am doing very well on it. I know that there were some very sceptical views on the subject but I have to say it has worked a treat. My sugars very rarely go above 7 and I haven't had a fasting level above seven for about a month and am about to lower my prescription.
I am due to see my diabetic nurse soon and obviously find out the the results of my blood tests which i will add when they are through.
I had my own reserves about this diet at first but at the moment I can't fault it. The one thing I will say is that high protien diet is not really an acurate description of what I am doing. In actual terms my diet is high fat more than protien. I am taking my diet from Barry grove's book "Natural Health & Weight Loss" where the diet is explained in much detail.
It would take me a long time to explain all of the facets of what I am eating but i am still eating a lot of fruit and veg along with the fat and protien.
Its possibly not for everyone but it has definately helped me and is worth having a look at.
All the best steve.

I know this post is old. I have just bought this in ASDA. What is the best sugar replacement then?

A low carb diet doesn't mean that low carbers have to go overboard with protein. Firstly because although meat, poultry, game and fish can be zero carb, high protein levels can provoke an insulin response. If the body is ingesting more protein than it can use, the excess is morphed into glucose. Excess protein can also be leaked into urine by damaged kidneys.
