I am Type 2 diabetic and currently take 1000mg of Metformin twice a day which I am told is the maximum dosage, but I have noticed that my blood sugar readings are creeping up, this morning it was 15.7 mmol/L and by lunchtime it was 21.5 mmol/L.

Does this mean that I am likely to have to change to an injection form of medication if this continues?

Hi vinceb63

I had very similar readings to you taking the same 1000mg of metformin. Ive recently been put on to victoza along side my metformin have been onit 5 days now and readings are already down to between 8 and 9. Might be something to talk to your gp about.

Hello vinceb63 and welcome to the forum.

I am sure one of the moderators will post the new member info pack soon.

In the meantime those readings are rather high, however you may be able to get them down to safe levels my making changes to your diet alone.

I am Type 2 the same as yourself and had readings in the 20's when I was first diagnosed. I take half the amount of Metformin as you. By following the advice of the people on this forum regarding diet my blood sugar levels are now normally between 4.5 and 6.5 at all times and have not needed any more medication at all.

If you let all of us have some idea of what you normally eat then everyone is here to advise.

Hi Vince and welcome to the forum It is possible that your rising levels are due to what you are eating. Try getting your levels down by following the dietary advice in this information that we give out to new members. It is probably different from what you have been told up to now. You may find in a while that your current medication is sufficient. Ask as many questions as you need to as there is usually someone here to help.
