High Readings Because I Have a Cold

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and I just wanted to get some advice if possible.

I was diagnosed as Type 2 in June this year. I have been managing my levels pretty well with diet and medication. I thought Christmas would throw things out of whack, but it didn't. I have been exceptionally busy at work and because of this I am really run down. I have my first cold in about 4 years and it's thrown my readings high. I've been getting morning readings of 4.7-5.7 every morning, but the last few mornings have been between 6.5 and 8.5.

Obviously, I am disappointed about this but I'm wondering if it's normal and how worried I should be about it. I can't take any more medication without speaking to a doctor, but I'm concerned the readings are too high and I don't know what to do about it. I can't not eat and whatever I do eat pushes the levels up, even if it's salad and vegetables. It has to be because I'm sick as the readings have been pretty excellent prior to this.

I'm new to this so I guess I'm just looking for a little reassurance and guidance. Should I be worried about a few high readings until this passes?

Thanks,
Anna

Hi Oompa,

I've had the experience of higher blood sugar levels when sick. I completely sympathise- it felt to me that as I was feeling less well my body up and made it worse. So every time I tested I felt mentally worse as I basically stuck to no carb so couldn't reduce my carbs but the readings were still high.

Just try to rest as much as possible and know they will come down again- stressing about them doesn't help- I've tested that for you lol

Thank you!

I know stress makes readings worse so I’ve refrained from testing too often. I knew someone on here would be able to offer some advice.

Thanks again
