High sugar levels

My sister is 12 years old and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes over 2 years ago, which she has been dealing with fine until recently. Shes started secondary school four months ago and has since had erratic sugar levels averaging between 15 and 32, although theyre about 7 or 8 when she wakes up in the morning. On days when the weather is really cold her levels sky rocket regardless of her insulin intake, they still go high if she doesnt eat. Could there be underlying problems?

There could be several factors going on which might be impacting on her control...

Some could be caused by hormone changes, as she approaches teenage years and the transformation into a women..

Her levels could be reacting to stress at school, secondary school will be a lot different environment than her smaller primary school..

She could be fipping about what she actually eating or and the insulin she's taking.. This could stem from how she percieves her peer's reaction to her diabetic condition..

I think it would be wise to contact her diabetic care team, so that they can look at her results, and if there is an underlying problem that your sister might need some extra help dealing with along side help with improving her control..

Hi,
my daughter is 14 years old and we had the same problem causes can be multiple. If there is an inflammatory issue. View ketones in the urine.

Thanks for replying, what do you mean by inflamatory issues?

I am a 21 year old type 1 diabetic on the insulin pump. I have trouble with my blood sugar levels too around my period and it fluctuates so much sometimes even after that. At times i need to increase my daily background insulin dose ( basal) by 60 percent and i went to doing two times more insulin in a day. Little activity makes a huge difference to my blood sugar levels and on days i go to the gym it differs greatly.
I try my best to keep my sugars under control but it is hard sometimes. I am an international student studying at uni and when my bsgs are high, I cannot concentrate on my studies, have a headache, feel tired and i tend to get irritated very easily.
I get very emotional and i feel lonely at times althoguh i have great parents and a great boyfriend.
I am worried that my long distance boyfriend has to hear me complain all the time. I joined this site for some emotional support and if you could advise me what to do for a better quality of life.

Do you think a low carb diet will help? Note that i eat healthy and count my low GI carbs on regular basis.
