Hi my name is carol
I seem to have hit a negative "wall" for 1 year I have been working hard at my db thanks to this forum but now I am stuck I have dawn phenominum and no matter what I try I cant seem to get it down I have tried eating last thing .Not eating after my evening meal.but it still comes up in high 7s to 9. Some db sufferers eat anything take loads of meds and just seem to get on ok
Has anyone else had this "OK I give in feeling" after about 1 year. :?:

Do you test immediately you get up and before you eat ? If you get up and even have a shower first it can affect your morning Bg readings.

Hi sue Ive done it every which way but it is still high if I take it as soon as I wake up Thanks for the answer I was feeling a bit cheesed off.

Hi Carol;
You have my sympathies; I'm in the same place and I keep getting conflicting advice so I thought I'd join the forum and get information from those in the know.

I hope you find something that works for you.

Best Wishes
Darren

I suffer from DP, my rising BG (6.30am) is always higher than the night before, though funily enough not necessarily very much higher, it is usually 6.something. But once I get up my BG continues to rise until breakfast time when it may be 8.somthing. Then when I was following the HCP advice about carbs and eating two rounds of wholemeal toast for breakfast it would rise to double figures, sometimes 12 and stay there unitl 12.00 0r 1.00pm.

I tried not eating after my evening meal, then eating at bedtime, I tried various things, oat biscuits, cheese, peanut butter, on their own or with the oat biscuit. I tried them with cider vinegar. I tried a herb called milk thistle and Chia seeds. but nothing made any difference at all.

I then tried not eating carbs at all in the morning and although my rising BG is still the same, and it does still keep rising unitl I eat, as soon as I eat a breakfast of something like an omelette, my BG will only rise to a normal post meal level of around 8.00 and then start dropping again. So that by 11.00 am I am back in the 6.somethings again.

I hope that makes sense? Basically I have to eat a non-carby breakfast ASAP after getting up and then my BG's behave as they do the rest of the day. But sadly I haven't found a cure for them being higher than when I went to bed.

I'd be pretty happy if my readings were 7 to 9 every time I checked. 7 is perfect for me.

that happened to me aswell, i had dinner and went to bed on a normal reading of about a 6 and in the morning it was rediculously high. this kept happening and i was annoyed because i didn't even eat anything since my meal that i had with units. i then tried eating another snack after my dinner and taking units with it, but i lowered my insulin to carb ratio so i took more units and this actually worked very well for me. remember though, if you try a lower ratio before you go to bed you must change it slowly and not all in one go as you could hypo in the night.
hope this helps

Dawn phenomenon?
If you go hypo in the night your can suffer rebound hyperglycaemia where your liver dumps glucagon into your system causing a surge in levels. Maybe try testing around 3 am. I always make sure my blood sugar is about 7-8 before sleeping.

hey angledust,
yeah, i checked in the night a few times to check i wasn't going hypo and having a rebound, but it was normal or high so i don't think it was that.

It's worth trying a few almonds before bed.
